The Role
We are seeking a visionary and hands-on Head of IT PMO to establish and lead our IT Project Management Office. This role is crucial in creating the tools, processes, and governance needed to support effective project delivery across City St George’s IT portfolio. You’ll ensure that our IT projects are executed with high standards, transparency, and alignment to the university's broader project framework. Key projects will include the implementation of a new curriculum management system and an exploratory project to consider how data warehousing could be utilised effectively, alongside a range of other strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
• Build & Embed IT PMO Practices: Develop and implement project management tools, templates, and processes to support City St George’s IT projects and broader university objectives.
• Project Lifecycle Management: Lead the governance and delivery processes from initiation through completion, collaborating with stakeholders to ensure consistency and high performance.
• Resource Planning & Capacity Management: Oversee resource allocation across IT project teams, ensuring effective capacity and utilization.
• Governance & Reporting: Manage reporting and risk tracking for IT projects, ensuring alignment with university standards and facilitating strategic oversight by senior leadership.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with the Change Support Unit (CSU) and other university teams to ensure seamless integration of IT PMO frameworks and institutional objectives.
• Budget & Risk Management: Oversee the IT project portfolio’s budget, RAID log, and overall financials, escalating risks and ensuring accurate reporting for leadership.

About You
We are looking for a leader with a strong background in IT project management, governance, and resource management. You’ll have experience building or managing an IT PMO within a large, complex organization and ideally bring knowledge of best practice frameworks (e.g., ITIL, TOGAF). This role requires both strategic insight and hands-on delivery skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
• Degree-level education or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of project management methodologies, including Agile and Waterfall.
• Recognized qualification in PMO management (e.g., P3O Practitioner) or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience in developing and leading a high-performing IT PMO.

Desirable Skills
• Higher Education sector knowledge.
• Additional project management certifications (PMP, Prince2, MSP).
• Familiarity with IT frameworks like ITIL and TOGAF.
