Salary: £52,000-£63,000
Contract: 24 month FTC
Location: Oxfordshire
Working Hours: Full-time preferred; flexible and part-time arrangements considered, with significant onsite presence required. Condensed four-day working week possible.

An outstanding opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Head of HR to join a prestigious organisation. Reporting directly to the Head of HR, this role is pivotal in delivering strategic and operational HR initiatives during a period of transformation. The postholder will act as a key partner to the Head of HR, taking on significant responsibilities and contributing to long-term HR excellence.

The Deputy Head of HR will liaise with senior stakeholders and oversee a team of 10 direct reports within a wider HR community of 80-100 professionals. This is a unique opportunity to lead within an established team of experts, including specialists in Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) and academic recruitment.

Key Responsibilities:

Partner with the Head of HR to manage strategic HR initiatives and operational challenges, ensuring organisational goals are met.

Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including senior leaders and HR professionals.

Oversee and support the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, career development, and engagement.

Lead and inspire a diverse HR team, fostering collaboration and delivering results in a dynamic environment.

Ensure smooth delivery of HR services while navigating the complexities of the sector.

Adapt to shifting project priorities and maintain resilience when plans evolve.

Balance operational HR functions with strategic planning to align with the organisation’s broader vision.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

Senior HR experience in complex organisations, ideally within Higher Education (HE), NHS, or similar environments. Experience within highly regarded academic institutions or equivalent is desirable.

Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels.

Proven track record of delivering results in challenging, fast-changing environments.

Strong operational and strategic HR expertise, with a comprehensive understanding of the employee lifecycle.

Adaptability, flexibility, and resilience when managing evolving projects and priorities.

Desirable Skills and Attributes:

Familiarity with the unique challenges of the Higher Education sector.

Collaborative leadership style, with the ability to manage and motivate a team of experts.

CIPD qualifications are beneficial but not essential.

Experience with Equality, Diversity & Inclusion initiatives is advantageous.
