Purpose
Working with senior leaders across the University to provide a high-quality People Business
Partner and Change Management Service to ensure that Schools and Services achieve their
objectives in line with the University Strategy and underpinning People Strategy.
This will include the management and delivery of all People-related disciplines, including
employee resourcing, relations and development, recruitment and selection, remuneration,
retention and succession planning, disciplinary and grievance matters, organisational
development and design and employment law to ensure the effective delivery of an
excellent People Service. It will also include ownership of a key strategic area within the
People Strategy.
Duties
1.
Work with Schools & Services to embed the people practices and strategies that will
help achieve key business objectives in a change orientated environment.
2. Build effective working relationships with senior leaders and the management team
within the University in order to meet needs proactively in a climate of change by
acting as a confidante, mentor and coach on all people issues within the
Schools/Services.
3. Be the specialist strategic lead within the University for a specific area of People
policy, keeping up-to-date with developments, shaping, negotiating and
implementing policy and practice across the University.
4. Champion, facilitate and support the process of change and organisational
development within School/Services in order to drive continuous improvement and
flexibility consistent with the cultural objectives, missions and aims of the Corporate
Objectives/ Plans.
5. Lead and line manage the relevant People Partners in consistently delivering
proactive policy and professional People processes that meet the needs of the
University.
6. Develop and use information proactively to identify themes/issues and work with
Schools &Services to implement effective solutions. Use information to track
progress and make the relevant interventions to ensure success.
7. As a member of the People Leadership Team, contribute to the development and
deployment of the People Strategy.
8. Facilitate an effective communication process within the School/Service area.
9. Play a key role in the development and management of the University’s Performance
Management process, ensuring consistent application within Schools/Services.
10. Ensure legal compliance and best practice through People policies, acting as advisor
to Schools/Services across all employment related issues.
11. Work with the School/Service teams and individuals to identify training and
development gaps and then contribute to the sourcing and development of the
appropriate interventions in conjunction with the People Development Team to
ensure a competent and appropriately skilled workforce that is aligned to the
University’s strategic initiatives.
12. Manage employee relations within each area of responsibility including local
negotiations and consultation with recognised Trade Unions.
13. Work closely with the People Operations Team to encourage cohesive approach to
service delivery of all day to day operational people requirements.
14. Build and maintain effective external links and networks, using them to identify best
practice and implement at the University as appropriate
15. Contribute to the training and development of managers in People practice across
the organisation.
16. Work across the People Team, contributing to the development and deployment of
a People Strategy that meets current and future business needs and manage a
number of critical projects from inception to successful implementation.
17. Support the University’s commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion by

18. Undertake other relevant duties and responsibilities appropriate to the grade of the

Person Specification
Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours (Essential)
• Significant and current People experience across all disciplines at a senior level

• Good honours degree or equivalent. (Application).
