Senior Management Accountant
A leading organisation in the education sector is seeking a Senior Management Accountant to join its Finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified finance professional to play a key role in financial planning, reporting, and business partnering with senior stakeholders.
The role will support senior budget holders and leadership teams, providing strategic financial insight, robust management reporting, and financial governance to support organisational decision-making.
The Role:
- Financial Planning & Budget Coordination
- Coordinate the annual budgeting, long-term financial planning, and year-end processes.
-Work closely with budget holders to develop accurate financial plans aligned with organisational priorities.
- Management Reporting
- Produce accurate and timely management reports, both routine and ad hoc.
- Provide meaningful financial insight to support performance monitoring and strategic decisions.
- Finance Business Partnering
- Support senior budget holders and operational leaders in managing budgets and financial performance.
- Provide constructive challenge, financial guidance, and risk identification.
- Financial Control & Reporting
- Lead preparation and review of monthly and year-end management accounts.
- Ensure reporting is accurate, complete, and delivered to agreed timelines.
- Strategic Financial Advice
- Contribute to senior operational and budget meetings.
- Provide financial insight and analysis to inform planning and operational decisions.
- Financial Analysis
- Analyse trends, forecasts, and expenditure to identify opportunities and risks.
- Produce detailed breakdowns of project or operational spend.
- Financial Governance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, policies, and internal controls.
- Support internal and external audit processes where required.
- Process Improvement
- Contribute to continuous improvement of finance systems, processes, and reporting tools.
- Work collaboratively across finance teams to implement best practice.
- Financial Capability & Training
- Support the development of financial understanding across the organisation.
- Translate complex financial information into clear insights for non-finance stakeholders.
About You:
Qualifications:
- CCAB qualified (or equivalent), or qualified by experience.
Experience:
- Significant experience in management accounting at a senior level.
- Experience supporting large budgets and senior stakeholders.
Proven expertise in:
- Budget management and forecasting
- Financial planning
- Risk identification
-Production of monthly management accounts
Desirable:
- Experience within the Higher Education sector.
- Experience managing or mentoring staff.
Skills & Attributes:
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to explain financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
- Strong business partnering and stakeholder management skills.
- Highly analytical with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proactive and collaborative approach to working across teams.
Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office tools.
- Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
- Experience supporting finance system or process improvements.
Desirable:
- Experience with ERP accounting platforms and business intelligence reporting tools.
